Supporting Families

Family_Support_pic.jpg

There are a range of family support services available at your local Children's Centre, helping to ease the many stresses and challenges of family life. Through fun and relaxed groups and activities we support parents to build on existing parenting skills and raise awareness of their children's needs and development. We also have opportunities to get advice and share concerns with Family Support Workers and other parents.

We can support you with:

Benefits and welfare rights
Choosing childcare
Returning to work
Behaviour support
Children with additional needs
Healthy eating
Signposting to other support agencies: further education, housing issues, counselling.

To speak to a family support worker contact your local Children's Centre.

Further family support can be found using the links below:

Healthy Start Vouchers

Healthy Start is there to help you give your family the very best start in life.
If you are pregnant or have a child less than four years of age, you could get Healthy Start vouchers. The vouchers are valid for milk, fresh fruit and vegetables and infant formula. In order for you to qualify you have to be a minimum of ten weeks pregnant and your family should be receiving at least one of the following:

  • Income Support or Income - based Job Seeker's Allowance
  • Income - related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit).

In order to claim, you will need to complete the application form that is enclosed in the leaflet. Once this has been received, Healthy Start will check that they have got all the information they need and if everything is there and you qualify, they will let you know within two weeks.
